In February Nordic Film Club shows internationally acclaimed Swedish drama „Mammoth“
30 January 2012
Nordic Film Club keeps bringing Nordic film lovers together and presents two more exceptional Nordic movies in February programme. It will begin with „Handcuff king“, the Finnish story about a boy abstracted into his own world of dreams, imaginary friends and struggle through ruff reality. The second film of the month is an internationally accaimed Swedish drama „Mammoth“ with Gael Garcia Bernal.

The film „Handcuff king“ (Kahlekuningas) will be shown on February 8th at 5.30 p.m.

In the 1970‘s, a 12-year-old boy Esko lives in Tornio, northern Finland, a town bordering Sweden across the river. Esko befriends a Swedish boy, Pate, and learns to share his obsession for Harry Houdini, the legendary escape artist. While standing handcuffed on the railway bridge, contemplating a stunt jump into the icy river, he reminisces the dramatic events of the summer before: gang fights, feeling guilty for lying, father losing his job, mother losing her nerves, not to mention Grandfather having lost his willingness to speak since a traumatic war experience 30 years earlier.

The second February film „Mammoth“ (Mammut) will be shown on February 22nd at 5.30 p.m.

New York marrieds, Ellen is an emergency-room surgeon, Leo is a listless, vaguely dissatisfied Internet game designer. They have a family, albeit an unconventional and dysfunctional one: seven-year-old daughter Jackie is practically being raised by a Filipino caregiver Gloria, who dotes on her incessantly. This provokes the envy of Ellen and the resentment of Gloria's two geographically estranged sons, who repeatedly phone their mom from Manila and plead with her to come home. Meanwhile in Thailand Leo encounters a woman named Cookie. Step by step, the actions that Leo takes while abroad create a domino effect and alter everyone's lives in irreversible ways.

The Nordic films are shown in original language with English subtitles at the Cinema Theatre Pasaka (Sv. Ignoto 4/3, Vilnius). The entrance is free of charge; the reservation of seats is not available.

Note! Spectators have to pick free-tickets at the ticket office; spectators without tickets are denied the entry.

The Nordic Film Club shows selected films for everybody, who is interested in the Nordic cinema and wants to see films that usually are not screened at Lithuanian cinema theatres. The Film Club tries to represent different genres without discriminating film-makers, who are not so well known internationally. The initiator of the Film Club is the Nordic Council of Ministers Office in Lithuania.
