New research projects to make the most of the potentials and mitigate the risks of AI in the Nordics and Baltics

2025 12 02

The technological development of Artificial Intelligence is rapidly evolving, and its implementation is developing in unpredictable patterns. Seventeen new research projects have received funding from NordForsk to support the ethical use of AI.

Out of 200 proposals 17 new research projects have all together been awarded roughly NOK 300 million in funding through the Nordic-Baltic initiative on responsible use of Artificial Intelligence.

A total of 163 researchers from 47 institutions and nine countries will explore the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in different areas, such as generative AI, Large Language Models, AI governance, use of AI in healthcare, workplaces and in the energy and maritime sectors as well as in education.

The projects are expected to support optimal utilisation of AI, with minimal risks and threats, and to the benefits of citizens, businesses and the societies in the Nordic and Nordic-Baltic region.
