In recent decades, the impacts of climate change have become increasingly evident in Lithuania. Since the mid-20th century, the country’s average annual temperature has risen by approximately 0.7–0.9 °C. Precipitation patterns have also shifted, with wetter winters and drier summers. Summers are now marked by more frequent droughts and extreme weather events, including heavy rainfall and even tornadoes. These changes pose challenges not only to the natural environment but also to Lithuania’s cultural heritage.
The seminar aims to introduce heritage specialists, restorers, and building owners with the effects of climate change on cultural heritage, the resulting damage, and possible preventive measures. It will also address the specific challenges for our climate zone.
The programme will feature insights from experts in the Nordic countries and Scotland on implementing national policies and methodologies to mitigate climate impacts on heritage. We hope the seminar will serve as a catalyst for developing a national system to adapt cultural heritage to climate change.
We invite you to join the live broadcast of the seminar’s first day (the streaming link will be sent to all registered participants).
