As usual, Nordic Literature Week takes place in November, the darkest time of the year.

The main idea of ​​the week is very simple – to read a book in candlelight when everyone comes together.

The present era is marked by greater distances, closed borders, but despite all the limitations, we are united by similar feelings. Literature has always allowed us to get lost in dreams, and it became even more important during a pandemic. That is why Nordic Literature Week this year invites you to talk about dreams and longing.

Excerpts from the work of Åland writers have been selected for reading. In this way, we aim to contribute to the centenary of the autonomy of the Åland Islands.

Elementary school students are invited to listen to an excerpt from Karin Erlandsson’s book The Pearl Seeker, and adults are invited to remember the literary classic Sally Salminen’s novel Katryna.

The Nordic Literature Week is organized by the Union of Associations (Foreningen Norden Forbund), which together with teachers, librarians, students and all other reading enthusiasts from Greenland to the Baltics annually organizes one of the largest reading events in the Nordic and Baltic region.
