A new round of funding has been awarded to NGO projects across the Nordic and Baltic region. The grants support initiatives focused on building resilience and emergency preparedness among youth, refugee integration, youth empowerment to start social business and better conditions in juvenile detention.

Over €100,000 has been allocated to five projects. Each one brings together NGO organizations in Lithuania and their Nordic and Baltic counterparts to tackle shared social challenges. The aim is to create lasting impact through cooperation, innovation, and care.

Healing through knowledge: empowering vulnerable youth

NGO Via alba has launched Nordic Practices in Our Reality, a project focused on importing proven Nordic models for supporting the emotional wellbeing of children from socially vulnerable backgrounds. Partnering with Finland’s Icehearts and Sweden’s Fryshuset, the initiative will include study visits, collaborative workshops, and a final dissemination seminar in Lithuania aimed at integrating effective support models. The project runs from June 2025 to May 2026.

Helping children find home amid displacement

Caritas of Kaunas Archdiocese will lead Finding Home in Oneself and in the World, a compassionate integration project for Ukrainian refugee children, in collaboration with partners in Norway and Latvia. The initiative will train professionals in therapeutic methods, host a two-week summer camp, and facilitate virtual “telebridges” among children across four countries. Running from May 2025 to May 2026, the project emphasizes trauma-sensitive care, identity development, and intercultural openness.

Young changemakers to grow social business ecosystems

VšĮ Motyvaciniai projektai will coordinate the Social Impact Initiative, aimed at preparing more than 30 young people across Lithuania, Finland, and Latvia to launch social enterprises. Through a blend of workshops, mentorship, and a digital alumni network hosted on Discord, the project seeks to combat youth unemployment and foster entrepreneurial innovation. Scheduled between June and December 2025, this initiative builds practical bridges across the Baltic and Nordic entrepreneurial ecosystems.

Preparing youth for crises and leadership

The Lithuanian Red Cross Society, with support from sister organizations in Latvia and Denmark, will implement SAFE Youth: Skills, Awareness & Future Engagement. This project (September 2025 – September 2026) is designed to create a sustainable youth volunteer and mentorship system around emergency preparedness. It includes cross-border visits, the development of standardized training materials, and a framework to prepare young mentors who can cascade their skills to others.

Towards more humane prisons: regional dialogue for reform

Networking and Training Opportunities for More Humane Prisons by VšĮ Prirašytos rankos (Inscribed Hands) will enhance rehabilitative practices for incarcerated youth. Partnering with organizations in Latvia and Sweden, this project focuses on trauma-informed care and mediative communication within prisons.
